I really enjoy photographing couples outdoors during the winter! There’s something special about the bright, white snow on the ground (and sometimes falling from the sky) that makes my heart happy.
When Nicole let me know that she and Dalton wanted to do their engagement session during chilly February, I was all on board!
Dalton, Nicole, their pup Daisy, and I met up at Adam’s Nature Preserve in North Sioux City, South Dakota. There was plenty of snow on the ground and we had a February heatwave of 45 degrees – it was perfect for the engagement session Dalton and Nicole were envisioning.
We started with photos with their sweetest pup Daisy. I was so surprised at how well she listened to Dalton and Nicole – she was always right by their side. Once Daisy’s photographs were done, she rode home with Nicole’s mom, and we continued with the rest of their engagement session.
Typically, I’m not someone to complain about the cold weather, but even with the February heatwave, we started to lose feeling in our toes halfway through the session from standing in the snow the entire time (and Nicole opted not to wear socks).
I told them towards the end of their session as we were racing towards our warm cars that soon we’d be laughing at the fact that we couldn’t feel our toes and it would be worth it. After seeing some of these images, I was totally right.
It was SO worth it!
